Financial Literacy Report
How England should reform maths education for the age of AI
This landmark report from Maths Horizons drew on polling of 4,000 young people aged 11–30 across the UK. It revealed strong and consistent support for financial education — but not as a strand of maths. Instead, young people overwhelmingly saw it as a practical life skill, centred on managing money.
Despite calls to expand the maths curriculum to include financial literacy, our research showed that embedding it in maths lessons was unlikely to meet young people’s needs, or improve financial confidence. Instead, the report recommended treating financial literacy as a core life skill, best delivered through tutor time, citizenship or standalone lessons.
The full report included detailed polling data, regression analysis and practical recommendations for curriculum design and policymakers.
