Financial Literacy Report
How England should reform maths education for the age of AI
This landmark new report from Maths Horizons draws on polling of 4,000 young people aged 11-30 across the UK. It reveals strong and consistent support or financial education - but not as a strand of maths. Instead, young people overwhelmingly see it as a practical life skill, centred on managing money.
Despite calls to expand the maths curriculum to include financial literacy, our research shows that embedding it in maths lessons is unlikely to meet young people's needs, or improve financial confidence. Instead, the report recommends treating financial literacy as a core life skill, best delivered through tutor time, citizenship or standalone lessons.
The full report includes detailed polling data, regression analysis and practical recommendations for curriculum design and policymakers.
