Maths Horizons has a highly experienced team of creators who will be writing and quality assuring 2000+ new tasks throughout the 2026-27 academic year. We will be aligning these tasks with the entire national curriculum.

Craig Tilstone
Craig has been a Primary School teacher since 2002, and a Primary Mastery Specialist since 2018, supporting schools across Nottinghamshire to develop and embed a mastery curriculum. In 2019, it was his great pleasure to visit Shanghai and to disseminate the practice and principles he saw there. He has also been involved in delivering the Maths content of the SCITT programme. In 2023 he spent a year developing Key Stage 1 and 2 Maths content for Oak National Academy - slide decks, quizzes, worksheets and videos.
Gareth Metcalfe
In his role as the Director of I See Maths, Gareth Metcalfe helps primary school children to build a deep understanding of mathematics and to grow as mathematical problem-solvers. Gareth was a Primary teacher for 12 years and is an experienced school leader. Since 2016, Gareth has worked with a range of schools and organisations, nationally and internationally, to put reasoning and problem solving at the heart of the maths curriculum. Gareth has also written a wide range of mathematics resources, which are widely used in Primary schools in the UK.
John Bee
John Bee is a School Improvement Advisor, School Improvement Partner and mathematics education specialist. He has been a Deputy Headteacher, Acting Headteacher and Mathematics Leader in primary schools across the North East of England, with extensive experience across all primary age ranges. John is a Primary Mastery Specialist and Professional Development Lead with the NCETM and contributes to the Maths Hubs Programme and national professional development. He holds a Master’s degree in Education, with a focus on mathematics, and has completed the NPQSL with Newcastle University. John is the author of three books, most recently Teaching Maths for Mastery (2025), and founder of MrBeeTeach. His work focuses on curriculum design, mastery, conceptual understanding and equitable access to high-quality mathematics through careful sequencing, variation, representation, reasoning and problem solving. He is passionate about ensuring every pupil, particularly the most disadvantaged, have genuine access to rich mathematical thinking.
SECONDARY
Paul Rowlandson
Paul Rowlandson is a mathematics educator, researcher and teacher educator with 15 years’ experience teaching secondary mathematics, including middle and senior leadership roles. He was closely involved in the development of the White Rose Maths Hub and has subsequently worked with organisations including Oak National Academy and the NCETM. Paul holds a Master’s degree in Teaching and a Doctorate in Education (EdD), with research for both focusing on mathematics pedagogy. He is published in professional and academic publications on mathematics teaching and learning and writes posts about task design on his blog, ‘Pondering Planning’. He is currently a Senior Lecturer and PGCE Maths Tutor at Leeds Trinity University and a Local Lead for the Advanced Maths Support Programme.
Amanda Austin
Amanda is in her 14th year of teaching Secondary Maths, across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5. This includes GCSE, IGCSE and A-level Maths and Further Maths. For the past ten years she has also worked as an Examiner for Pearson Edexcel, marking both Level 2 and 3 qualifications. More recently she has worked as a resource creator for Dr Frost Maths, creating KS3/4 lessons and exercises, and authored for Oxford University Press on their Mosaic series of textbooks with Craig Barton and Jemma Sherwood. In her spare time, she also shares resources through her own website, Dr Austin Maths.
Rosie Benton
Rosie is an experienced maths education resource creator and reviewer. After beginning her career as a secondary mathematics teacher, Rosie expanded into examining and educational publishing, working as a freelancer to write and review textbooks, revision guides, and other teaching resources. Seven years ago, Rosie joined MEI as part of the Integral resource team. Since then, she has contributed to the development of Integral's A level mathematics resources and has worked on a range of national projects. These include working as a reviewer for Oak National Academy's secondary mathematics resources and contributing to the development of resources for the Advanced Mathematics Support Programme's HLMAP project.
Nathan Day
Nathan is a Maths and Computer Science teacher from Nottingham in his eighth year of teaching. He is the creator of Interwoven Maths, a site for sharing resources that explore the connections underlying different areas of maths. He has also led workshops at many different conferences and created resources for various websites, often with a focus on problem solving and supporting students to think more deeply about mathematics.

Lydia Hepworth
Lydia has worked in the education sector for 15 years, undertaking curriculum design and consultancy roles in both the public and private sector. After studying financial mathematics at the University of Surrey, she returned to her true calling in the education sector. She specialises in quality management of educational materials and has overseen the review of over 2000 maths lessons at Oak National Academy. Lydia is a mentor at Axiom Maths and recently a curriculum designer for this year's Purposeful Ventures Maths Camps.
